University of Massachusetts, Boston - Parking Lots & Pedestrian Safety Improvements
Boston, MA

Shortly before the beginning of the 2006 -2007 school year, the University of Massachusetts Boston learned that their existing parking garage had structural problems and was not safe to use.  As a result the design and construction of new temporary surface parking, combined with improvements to existing surface parking, became necessary.  Pare was retained to provide engineering services including site layout, grading, geotechnical investigations, stormwater/drainage control, and construction administration.  Design for nine lots has included site lighting (through an electrical engineering subconsultant), security cameras, emergency call phones, and traffic control booths & gates.

For a subsequent contract, Pare provided pedestrian counts and traffic counts, design of a pedestrian-actuated signal at an existing crosswalk, design of additional sidewalks and crosswalks to improve pedestrian access through campus. replacement of existing sidewalks and re-striping of existing crosswalks, design of improvements for interaction between pedestrians and vehicles at an existing intersection, and ADA improvements for pedestrian access from parking lots to the campus center.
