Highway Performance Monitoring Systems
Statewide, RI

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) requires that state highway agencies establish Highway Performance Monitoring Systems (HPMS).  Data from the HPMS is reported to the Division office of FHWA on an annual basis.  Pare is responsible for carrying out the HPMS program established by the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT).  The program consists of approximately 700 inventoried sample segments throughout the state.  An updated inventory of the existing sample segments was required as part of this project.

Also, in order for RIDOT to effectively and efficiently meet the HPMS and ISTEA traffic-monitoring requirements, approximately 200 traffic-monitoring stations were designed and installed throughout the State Highway System.  The monitoring station designs include the incorporation of AVC/WIM stations, inductive loop detectors, and radar vehicle detectors.
