Amgen/KCWA Underground Water Booster Pumping Station Upgrade
West Warwick, RI

Pare Corporation was retained to provide consulting engineering services for the final design of a replacement pumping system and associated process equipment as part of the upgrade to an existing, inactive pump station in West Warwick which is owned by the Kent County Water Authority (KCWA). The reactivation of the pumping station was necessary to provide additional pumping capacity and supplemental water supply for the Amgen Biotechnology facilities which were under construction approximately 4.5 miles west of the pump station site.

The upgraded replacement pumping station was a prefabricated, underground station design containing a duplex turbine pump arrangement with the second pump serving as the back-up. System pump controls allow for alternating selection of each pump to serve as the primary or lead pump. Pare’s design also included surge control equipment, flow metering equipment, integration with KCWA’s existing SCADA system, HVAC improvements to the pump station, and exterior site improvements.
