East Bridgewater High School
East Bridgewater, MA

Pare is a member of the design team for the new East Bridgewater High School. The first step in the design process of the new school was assessment of two sites to determine which site would be ultimately chosen to house the new building.  Pare performed field reviews to investigate the resource areas; researched both State and local regulations relative to wetlands, Zone II protection, and erosion control; coordinated with the project team to determine potential impacts, applicable permits, and possible solutions regarding the wetlands and associated buffers; and reviewed MEPA thresholds to determine what, if any, impact there might be to the overall project feasibility.

Based on Pare’s findings (in conjunction with others) the preferred site for development was identified.  For the chosen site, we assisted the team in coordinating with MADEP regarding the failed septic system on the existing high school site.  A plan was developed to construct a new leach field remote to the High School site; Pare designed the septic system and related sewer force main.

Pare also performed a Phase I ESA of the chosen site with respect to the potential presence of “Recognized Environmental Conditions.” In addition a complete geotechnical program was performed to further characterize the subsurface conditions and provide bearing capacity recommendations to be utilized by the structural designer.

In addition to site design, Pare is also performing traffic engineering and permitting.  The site design effort includes layout and grading of the site along with hydraulic and hydrologic modeling for infiltration systems and low impact drainage design; preparation of plans and permitting through the Town; and submission to the MA Department of Environmental Protection under the Wetlands Protection Act.  Pare also designed a new synthetic turf multi-purpose field, irrigation well, and geometric improvements to adjacent streets.

The new high school is involved in the model schools program and the goal is to become certified with LEED for Schools.
