Tucker Field - Cumberland High School
Cumberland, RI

Pare Corporation, in conjunction with Birchwood Design Group, was retained to design a redevelopment of the Tucker Field athletic complex in Cumberland, Rhode Island. The existing athletic facilities were stressed from overuse, were beyond their life expectancy, and didn’t meet current athletic or accessibility standards. The design team coordinated with the Town to develop a program of current and proposed uses for the complex. The redevelopment included replacement of the athletic track, replacement of natural turf with a multi-use synthetic turf system, softball field resurfacing, stormwater management improvements, utility upgrades, and parking lot reconstruction.

The former athletic track was not compliant in grade or size. Detailed planning and design analyses allowed much of the athletic track to remain and reduced new base and surfacing materials to provide a compliant athletic track.

The design team worked closely with the users and interested parties in the Town through workshops and public meetings to achieve a redevelopment that met the Town's expectations and goals.

Construction on the new facility began in June of 2013 and was in use by the end of September 2013.
