Overview

Phase I of the Narragansett Bay Commission’s Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) Abatement Plan’s intent was to store the combined sewage that exceeds the carrying capacity of the existing sewer system in deep rock tunnels. The Field’s Point Tunnel Pump Station was designed to pump-out the tunnels following storm events, so that the combined wastewater can be treated at the Field’s Point Wastewater Treatment Plant.

As part of both the Preliminary and Final Design Team, Pare provided civil, mechanical, and structural engineering services associated with the FPTPS Facility. During preliminary design, Pare assisted in the preparation of the 30% design documents, evaluated the pump hydraulics, and prepared general arrangement alternatives for system hydraulics and space layout.

After approval of the preliminary design, Pare prepared final design drawings and specifications which included final grading, site runoff and storm drainage design, site access and pavement requirements, routing of 24″ discharge lines from the FPTPS Control Building through the yard and into to the 42″ force main, 42-inch force main layout and design, utility layout around the facility, and sanitary sewer discharge design.
