MassDOT Federal Aid Off-System Bridge Replacement/ Rehabilitation – Rounds 3 and 5
Statewide, MA

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation has in place a pre-engineered bridge footprint program for the rehabilitation/ replacement of deficient bridges throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.  The intent of the program is to reduce the number of bridges that have been identified as deficient due to substandard load capacity and deterioration.  To date, Pare has been retained by MHD to provide engineering services for nine bridges under two contracts:

  • Young’s Road over Baker Brook, Lunenburg
  • Burrington Road over Hartwell Brook, Charlemont
  • Breakneck Road over Hop Brook, Tyringham
  • Mill Street over the Quinapoxet River, Holden
  • Old Somerset Avenue over Three Mile River, Dighton
  • Minor Road over Town Brook, Lanesborough
  • Spring Street over Mill River, Taunton
  • Hospital Road over Quaboag Stream, Monson
  • Route 16 over Rock Meadow Brook, Uxbridge

All of the above bridge projects are located over a waterway and each of the designs needed to be sensitive to the wildlife habitat within the waterway.  The projects were laid out so as to limit the disturbance in the waterway and minimize riverbed disturbances in areas of known fish runs.
