Pare completed a Phase II inspection of this large size, high hazard dam for the MADCR Office of Dam Safety. The dam, originally constructed c. 1872, had numerous safety deficiencies including inadequate discharge capacity, sinkholes along the length of the dam, nonfunctional drainage systems, and severe erosion of the upstream slope.
Pare was retained to complete designs to address the deficiencies. Pare worked with MADCR to develop an approach that incorporated a variety of techniques including overtopping protection, maximizing routing of storm flow within the impoundment, and a multi-staged riser structure designed to maintain current 100-year outflow flow profiles and provide the necessary capacity during larger storm events.
In addition, Pare obtained project permits and developed an impact mitigation program which included improving two stream crossings downstream of the dam to meet stream crossing standards.
